From November 10 to December 4, Mario’s Restaurant located along 191 Tomas Morato corner Scout Gandia, Quezon City presents the works of artist Michael Velasco in a one-man exhibit entitled ‘Grace, Elegance and Humanity.’ A painter, muralist and portraitist, Velasco has long held a fascination for the female form. His featured works in the exhibit are portraits of women done in oil and gold leaf on canvas. The “Lovelorn Muse” shows a female in repose against a gold leaf background, her profile drenched with light, her bosom overflowing amid folds of fabrics in both light and rich, red wine hues.  Continue Reading

Noche Buena, Chef Sau Style At The Maya Kitchen

It’s Noche Buena ala Chef Sau del Rosario on December 5, Saturday, 9am to 1pm for The Maya Kitchen Elite Culinary Series. Chef Sau will demonstrate Tamales, rice flour simmered with coconut, annatto and shrimp stock topped with peanuts, chicken and quail eggs; Chicken Galantina, ground chicken, chorizo, Vienna sausage, capers, raisins, eggs, ham and bacon; Salt-Baked Salmon, salmon covered then cooked with egg whites and salt served with orange and rosemary beurre blanc sauce; and Brazo de Mais, infused with corn and molded to look like a real corn. It is stuffed with pastry cream and layered with egg whites.

Chef Sau del Rosario can credit his culinary talent to his Kapampangan roots. He studied at the University of the Philippines for a bachelor’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration and obtained culinary education in Paris, France. He worked in Michelin restaurants in Nice, Paris, Shanghai, Bangkok and in Raffles Singapore. Chef Sau moved back to Manila 8 years ago and he opened the restaurants Chelsea, M Café and Le Bistro Vert to mention some.

Today, Chef Sau is the Culinary Director for Center for Culinary Arts Manila (CCA). He is also a recipient of Most Outstanding Kapampangan Awards for Culture (MOKA) and a few months ago, he added author to his many accomplishments by publishing his own cookbook, 20 Years of Love + Cooking. The ever creative and energetic chef will soon open 2 restaurants, ‘Lola’s Boy’ in Angeles City set to welcome diners on December 15 and ‘93 North’ along H.V. dela Costa Street, Salcedo Vilage, Makati which is set to open in February 2016.

Mario’s Tomas Morato offers Roast Turkey ‘to-go’ on Thanksgiving week, November 24 to 29 with choices of delectable stuffing like Herbed Corn Bread, Relleno de Pabo, American Style and Spanish Style Relleno. All come with that perfect sweet-tart cranberry sauce and rich giblet gravy.Orders should be placed at least a day in advance. Dine-in guests can also order the turkey offerings.

Mario’s Baguio celebrates with a Special Thanksgiving Dinner Buffet on November 26, Thursday, 6pm at P850+ per person. The spread includes Bagna Cauda with vegetable crudité, assorted cold cuts, Seafood Bouillabaisse, Russian Salad,Caesar Salad and a salad bar with Thousand Island and Strawberry Vinaigrette.

Roast Turkey with American Stuffing and Cochinillo take center stage along with other main entrées that include Pastel de Lengua, Beef Tenderloin with Cuba Libre BBQ Lychee Sauce, Salmon Rockefeller with Duglere Sauce, Squash Ravioli with Cherried Onion Sauce, Linguini with Spicy Tomato and Aubergine, Baked Yam, Buttered Corn on the Cob, Three Mushroom Risotto and Paella Valenciana.

Sweet endings include Pecan Tart, Pumpkin Pie, Triple Chocolate Pudding and Fresh Fruit Slices.
