7-15-07 ze francais, german and la espaniola

sup peeps! i woke up pretty late today, around 2 pm i think, because i got home before 4 am this morning. i went out to watch a show at a comedy bar last night, and well it turned out to be a very long and fun night.

anyway, when i woke up, there was already food on the table. my mom made sarsiadong tilapia (fried tilapia with tomato and egg sauce) for lunch. i wasn’t in the mood to eat tilapia for breakfast, (it being my first meal of the day) so i went to the kitchen and made french toast.

i drizzled maple syrup on top and paired this with german franks, and a plate of sliced fresh fruits on the side. and of course, my breakfast would not be complete without a cup of hot brewed coffee! Continue Reading

7-13-07 torta ala cubana

i was again in charge of making lunch today.and since there was plenty of the beef mixture from the arroz ala cubana leftover from last night, i decided to make torta! so i added some slightly beaten eggs and some flour, fried it, and there you go! instant makeover! =)

now, alternatively, you may use fine bread crumbs in place of the flour as a binder. i didn’t have bread crumbs so i used flour, which is just as effective. i made these patty-style, but you may also shape them into balls and deep-fry them. oh and serve it with ketchup, banana ketchup tastes best, well in my opinion anyway =)

that’s it for now. enjoy!

oh hey! today’s friday the 13th…..

7-13-07 last night’s dinner

last night mom went out so i had to cook dinner.i rummaged through the freezer and i found a pack of ground beef, so i decided to make arroz ala cubana.

its one of my favorite dishes, and a personal comfort food.i just cant have enough of it! so anyway, i went to the market to buy some saba (plantains) while i left the ground beef to thaw out. saba (plantains) is the perfect side dish for arroz ala cubana because it gives that sweetness that counteracts the tartiness of the tomato sauce in the cubana. 7-11-07 look what i had for lunch!

this is what i had for lunch =) tuna belly adobo!!!

now for those of you who are not familiar with filipino cooking, adobo is a dish that is a staple in every filipino family’s menu. the main ingredients of adobo i’ve been told are: vinegar, garlic, red onions, and peppercorn. any kind of meat can be used for this dish, even some vegetables. now, all throughout the country are different variations and takes on this very simple and delicious dish. there are some that are made with coconut milk, some with soy sauce and so on. i personally prefer the “tagalog” recipe which has soysauce, mainly because this is the adobo recipe i’ve known ever since i was a kid. ihaw-ihaw, kalde-kaldero 7-9-07

it’s monday and so far it’s been uneventful. my mom made me cook lunch. And since i woke up late and was pressed for time, i ended up making:

corned beef hash

plain white rice

i always make sure that i have a few canned items like corned beef, tuna, and meatloaf in my pantry because they are so easy to prepare when you’re in a pinch. what could be more easier than opening a can of corned beef and dumping it on a sizzling hot pan? =)

moving on…

for dinner, my mom and i prepared :

menu:

grilled calamari w/ soy and calamansi dip

roast pork belly w/ liver sauce

grilled eggplant salad

plain rice
