How to Pick the Perfect Wine

Do you love wine but don’t know how to pick one? There are only two words you need to know in choosing the perfect bottle of wine – René Barbier. This holiday, get away from the guessing game and read the following tips in wine selection.

Almost everybody loves red wine. One outstanding red is the René Barbier Gran Reserva 1999. Made from Spain’s own Tempranillo grape mixed with Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine underwent at least 2 years of ageing in French Oak Barrels and another 3 years in the bottle before it was commercially released. On the nose and mouth, dark, ripe, autumn fruits dominate and are complimented by notes of cocoa, liquorice and black pepper. It is the most impressive addition to the Rene Barbier line to date. This youthful wine can be savoured with red sauce pasta, lighter beef dish and poultry.

The René Barbier Seleccion is available in both Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. This well-awarded line boasts of a deep, red Cabernet Sauvignon with rich tannins, mature fruit flavors and a subtle hint of black liquorice. It is perfect with beef, lamb, poultry and is a great match for brie, cheddar and chocolate.

The light, golden Chardonnay flourishes with complex aromas and fine flavors of exotic fruits. It is perfect to go with grilled chicken breast, shellfish, broiled or poached white fish, fresh paella or Caesar Salad. Both red and white varieties have undergone long, tedious processes of barrel-fermentation, maturation and a longer maceration that contribute to their intensity and complexity.

Also distinguishable and a winner of a number of awards is the René Barbier Cabernet Sauvignon Crianza Premium, a full, deep garnet red, which is known for its ripe berry aromas and its classic long and integrated finish overlaid with peppery spices. This is your best choice to go with grilled beef skewers, burgers, gyros, pizza or pasta dishes.
The René Barbier Petillant Rose & Blanco are two sparkling wines that are light and refreshing. They are fruity with light bubbles and are perfect for lazy, afternoons.

The René Barbier Classic Merlot & Tempranillo is for those who prefer sweeter, fruity and soft wines. This Merlot is complex with different flavors of pepper, mint, and plums. The addition of the classic Spanish grape Tempranillo adds complexity unfound in other merlot wines. Goes well with beef, red pasta dish, heavy chicken dish and also with chocolate.

The René Barbier Mediterranean line is, of course, still a classic staple. The first of the Rene Barbier series to be introduced in the country, the Mediterraneans have captured the affection of wine drinkers with its perfectly balanced blends. The Red is a wine of intense sherry color and strong aromas and is warm in the palate, while the White is a crisp lemon yellow with greenish tones, has intense aromas, and is well structured with a fresh and flowery flavor that is low in acidity. Both are very subtle and pleasant to the mouth, making them generally appealing and fairly easy to pair with different types of food.

All in all, René Barbier Wines exude a perfect blend of fruit flavors, subtle sweetness, velvety texture and a smooth and long finish. René Barbier Wines are available in all Shopwise, Rustans, Landmark & Cherry Supermarkets as well as selected fine restaurants. It is imported and exclusively distributed in the Philippines by ADP Industries Corporation. For more information on the wines, visit www.rbwines.com.ph or email adp@adpic.org.
