My American Idol Experience

Last week on May 21st, the final episode of Season 8 aired. The finale, which aired live at 8 A.M. here in the Philippines, –beamed from the Nokia Theater in Hollywood–was watched by millions across the globe. The whole world watched as Kris Allen was crowned this year’s American Idol. I was one of them. I rooted for Adam Lambert, but deep in my gut I know Kris would emerge as the victor.

I was fortunate enough to watch it on the big screen because a friend of mine invited me to watch it live at Greenbelt 3’s Cinema. Even though it was early, there was a huge turn-out of supporters for both Kris Allen and Adam Lambert.

I haven’t had much sleep the night before… wait. I didn’t sleep at all the night before. If it weren’t for the Nescafe cappuccino, I would have probably fallen asleep. That, and the vivacious crowd whose energy was so infectious! I sat in the front row sipping my coffee, and in between bites of Greenwich pizzas and pastas, the crowd cheered with every performance that Thursday morning!

After the show ended, all the viewers who watched it with me still milled about the theater lobby, exchanging commentaries and whatnot while they ate more pizzas as they waited for their photos to be developed. (I forgot to mention that there was a photo booth where you can have your photo taken and have the images of Adam Lambert and Kris Allen super-imposed on your photograph.) Since I didn’t have my photo taken, and I wasn’t hungry, I said goodbye to my fellow viewers and went my way. The comic shops beckoned.

Thank you, Char, for inviting me. And thank you to Greenwich for sponsoring the screening. I definitely had a good time!

Ryan
